We continue to hold our fire fighters, emergency services and support services in our prayers. For those still on duty across NSW, Victoria and the ACT, may they know your strength, mercy and hope. We pray especially for those working tirelessly across The Canberra Region Presbytery and the communities that continue to be under watch and danger, we will continue to hold these communities and amazing people in our prayers over the coming months.

We hold in prayer those from our community who are journeying with cancer. For those sitting with family members who are undergoing treatment, for those from our community undergoing radiation therapy or chemotherapy, for our community members who are having to do this away from home and away from loved ones.

We hold in prayer people who are undergoing surgery and recovering at this time, in particular we think of those who are in hospital away from home.

We pray for our boys and girls brigades, for the leaders who give of their time and skills, the families who support its ministry and the young people who are a part of the brigade communities. May this year be one of growth, community and support.

We pray for the members of our Church Council, may they continue to listen to God’s call, may they also be a community of wisdom, mercy, compassion and joy as they provide leadership and guide our community. We pray especially for the executive, Matt Grudnoff, Narelle Dodd and Jack Barnard in their leadership roles.

A prayer for Australia from the Moderator of the United Church of Canada, Moderator Richard Bott.

We pray for gentle rains,
and no wind;
we pray for cooling skies,
and water in abundance;
we pray for the burning land,
we pray for the four legged,
and the winged,
for the koala and the kangaroo,
and all of their neighbours;
we pray for the people who are trapped,
for the people who have lost their homes,
for the firefighters and the first responders,
for the exhausted and the tapped out,
we pray for Australia,
from east, to south, to west, to north,
and all the places in between.
In this world of changed and changing climate, God,
we ask that you would help us
to help those who are in immediate danger;
may we use what we have to help and to heal –
then call us to repent of all the ways
we continue to make this world
a place of death, rather than life.
Help us, O God… because we
don’t seem to be able
to do it on our own.
In Christ’s name,
on the wings of the Holy Spirit,
we pray.
Amen.

We pray for those who are travelling. May the journey be safe, the roads smooth and the destinations blessed.

We continue to pray for the communities devastated by fire and flame, may healing be near and the fires cease soon. We pray for the people, paid and volunteer who are fighting the fires again we pray for health, patience, stamina, healing and hope. We pray for those who have been injured and especially for the friends and families of the fire fighters who have lost their lives in recent days. We also pray for the earth, for the animals that depend on a safe habitat, now caught in fire and for the forest and land that there will be healing, may we learn to care for our world again, to partner with it as we heal together.

We pray that you all have a blessed Christmas period, that as the year comes to an end you experience the love, peace, hope and joy of God and can find a way to help others experience it too.

The Moderator of the Synod of NSW & ACT has invited us all to pray for those affected by the bushfires, the communities, the firefighters, the schools, the people, the farmers and those sup-porting the communities at this time.

We continue to pray for our neighbours who are affected by the fires:
– All who have lost their homes.
– The animals who have lost their habitat.
– The fire fighters, volunteers and teams working to control the fires and make people safe
– The chaplains who are meeting with people in this desperate situation and caring for them.
– The communities who are facing new challenges as they work to care for each other.
– We continue to pray with hope that the fires will cease and healing can begin.

About GUC

We are a community on a journey, we’ve grown from a small faith community planted in Ngunnawal in the early years of Gungahlin’s development to a thriving inclusive, intergenerational & multicultural community. As Gungahlin has grown we have seen a lot of change.

We are an open and inclusive community, everyone is welcome to use their gifts in worship, prayer, leadership, hospitality and teaching.
