Christmas Bowl

18/12/2023 by Church Office

Give Hope

Share God’s love with a refugee going hungry this Christmas.

Since 1949, compassionate Christians like you have followed Rev Frank Byatt’s legacy, coming together each Christmas across Australia and the world to provide safety in exile for people forced from their homes by conflict and disaster. Your gift through the Christmas Bowl will support local partners to meet urgent needs and help create a world where uprooted people have a safe place to belong.

Children’s Programs

01/12/2023 by Church Office

We try really to be an intergenerational worshiping community, which means we have people of all ages (literally 0 to 93!) worshiping and fellowshipping together.

We are always looking for people willing to assist with our children’s programs

Leaders and support people are required to have a current Working With Vulnerable People check.

Oasis

Oasis, (Kid’s Church) is curated for kids in preschool to year 6 in the second half of worship on the 1st, 3rd and 4th Sunday with a program that runs alongside the themes we’re exploring in worship.

WHO IS JESUS FOR ME?

03/07/2022 by Church Office

Luke 9: 28-36

As Jesus was praying, the look on his face altered, and his clothes became radiant white………..

and a cloud came over them, and a voice spoke out of the cloud:

“This is my own Son, the chosen one; listen to him.”

If you reckon the story of the transfiguration is a bit “way out,” then you are definitely on the right track. If your mind gags when you try to understand it, then I think Luke would be delighted. You should mentally gag; you should puzzle over the picture that Luke frames for you.  You should feel out of your depth because you are out of your depth! Far out of your depth!

Luke, in telling the transfiguration story, is attempting to convey the confounding mystery of Jesus the Christ…  A mystery which in the final analysis is: “inaccessible to human mind and tongue”

[to quote the New Testament scholar, Eduard Schweizer.]

It is a story of enlightenment, an epiphany story. That is why we use this Gospel reading at the beginning of Lent…to prepare us as we ponder and participate in the amazing story and mystery of Easter.

The Transfiguration is another shot at encapsulating the good news: “We have seen the glory of God in the face of Jesus the Christ”.

How will you practice Lent?

16/02/2019 by Church Office

This year Lent begins on March 6th and ends on the 18th of April. People often practice Lent by giving something up, saving the money they would usually have spent for a charity, or for the church. Some people use the time to find space to explore a spiritual practice, pray, or a bible study. How will you practice Lent this year?

About GUC

We are a community on a journey. We’ve grown from a small faith community planted in Ngunnawal in the early years of Gungahlin’s development to a thriving intergenerational and multicultural community located near the Gungahlin town centre.

Gungahlin Uniting Church is an open and inclusive community.  You are welcome to join us and participate in the life of our community as we experience life, God and seek to follow the way of Christ.
