Bulletin – 17 Jun 2012

June 17, 2012 by Church Office

Today at Gungahlin Uniting Church
Today is the 3rd. Sunday in the month. This means that we all worship together for the first half before we share in morning tea. Following morning tea Oasis (primary aged) meets in the courtyard rooms, Billabong (Teenagers) meet with Jacquie (meet in foyer to begin) and in the auditorium there is the message and reflection on the Gospel. Today is also Grow One Sunday where we are asked to consider our giving to the church.

Gungahlin Uniting Food Pantry
Where are we up to with our food pantry ministry? Thankyou to everyone who indicated their willingness to the idea of volunteering to help in this work. We have 4 people who are willing to be on a leadership team and 24 people who will consider volunteering in some way further down the track. This is a great response. So what is next?

  • Please plan to come along to our next Food Pantry Conversation next Sunday 24th. June 12 mid-day. Kirsty Baker and Barbara Campbell from Holy Cross Tuckerbox, Hackett, will be with us for the conversation. Please bring a small plate of sandwiches to share if you are able.
  • Following this conversation the leadership team will meet on Wednesday 27th. June.
  • In addition a few people have begun talking about location, storage, and purpose built shed/room etc.
  • Applications for funding are already being completed.

Please be mindful and prayerful for this work.

Looking for somewhere to live!
Robyn Whitefern is looking for somewhere to live. Do you know of anyone who would consider a lodger to share house, or know of a granny flat? Would prefer Gungahlin or North-side. Could possibly rent with someone who would like to be a co-tenant.
Non Smoker. Christian. Please ring Robyn on 0415 447 689 if you can help!

Men’s Winter Evening Dinner
All men are invited to an evening dinner at the George Harcourt Inn (Gold Creek) at 6pm. on Wednesday 20th. June. There are a variety of pub meals to choose from, a warm fire, and good company. If you would like to come along, please pop your name on the sheet in the foyer today so a booking can be made.

Grow One 2012
Over the past few weeks this newsletter has asked you to consider if you are ready to grow one step on our income/offerings table. This means to grow by one step your financial commitment to the work of your church in the Gungahlin community.

Our congregation has in recent years been both very generous in its commitment to growing our church but also fortunate in receiving amazing generosity from other Christians and congregations around Canberra. We have taken on a major project and built these church buildings and have now begun a major engagement with the Gungahlin community – with community groups hiring the buildings almost every day of the week in addition to our own worship on Sundays.

But our Minister, Rev Mark, needs our growing support and resources to grow our current mission within the Canberra Uniting Church Presbytery and NSW Synod, to the Agape Home in Thailand, and soon we hope with a new Community Food Pantry.

Soon, we hope, we may be also able to make contributions to other congregations in need of help and begin to match the incredible generosity of Canberra congregations towards Gungahlin and its growing mission.

This week we ask our members to make a commitment of their financial contribution for the year ahead. We ask you to look at what percentage of your income you contribute to the work of the church and ask can you grow that by one step (percentage step) in the table below in the year ahead.

We ask you to indicate your commitment to Gods work by completing the form handed to you this morning with your name or anonymously if you wish.

You can choose to make your gift to Gods work by:

  • direct bank transfers
  • regular envelope giving into the offering bags
  • cash giving into the offering bags
  • making special donations

As stewards of the Church resources, the Church Council needs your commitment to prepare our budget for the next year so we can plan the projects we will undertake to do Gods work in Gungahlin, Canberra. and across the world.

We pray that a regular and growing commitment from our congregation will help us to do much more.

God bless you
Wayne, Treasurer

About GUC

We are a community on a journey, we’ve grown from a small faith community planted in Ngunnawal in the early years of Gungahlin’s development to a thriving inclusive, intergenerational & multicultural community. As Gungahlin has grown we have seen a lot of change.

We are an open and inclusive community, everyone is welcome to use their gifts in worship, prayer, leadership, hospitality and teaching.
