Bulletin – 22 Jul 2012

July 22, 2012 by Church Office

New Gungahlin Uniting Directory
Each year we try to update our directory of the contact details of regular attenders. The directory is then accessible online (to members only), in a booklet and through email. In the foyer are the basic details of the members of the congregation for you to check and sign. All the information has been re-entered so please check your details are correct, fill in what is missing, change what is incorrect, and initial next to your name. We need your permission to include your name!

Baptism of Owen and Levi King!
Next Sunday in worship we celebrate the baptism of Owen and Levi. Brooke and Simon, Owen and Levi, have been worshiping with us for the past months and in the next weeks will be transferring to Papua New Guinea as part of Simon’s work with AusAID. We look forward to this time of celebration as we acknowledge God’s love for them all.

Friendship Conversation Group
See the flyer in your bulletin about our Friendship Conversation Group to help people improve their spoken English. Take the flyer and if you know anyone who would find this helpful, feel free to use the flyer as an invite.

Insights
The latest Insights Magazine is available in the foyer from today. The free magazine is published by the Synod of NSW and ACT and helps us hear a little of the work of the wider Uniting Church.

Church Property Management
After conversation with the Minister, Church Council executive and Property Committee, it has been decided that for the present we change the way we oversee our property management. At this time the Property Committee has been disbanded with the Church Council taking on the responsibility of overseeing our property management. All our property needs, projects, maintenance etc. will be prioritised by the Church Council according to safety, mission, and lastly ongoing jobs. We thank all those who have served on that committee.

We have appointed Frank Thompson as Maintenance Coordinator (Manse) and Steve Sweet as Maintenance Coordinator (Church Building). Their task is simply to oversee any small maintenance issues. Frank will also liaise with the Real Estate Agent for the Manse.

It is important that if there are small issues for church building maintenance that you identify, that you write them in the book that is in the kitchen and not expect Steve to deal with these things on Sunday mornings. Each of us, including the treasurer, the Minister, the secretary, the Maintenance Coordinators, should be able to come to worship on Sunday without it being a business day. Any major project ideas etc. need to be raised directly with the Church Council through the secretary Heather Lamb.

On a final note the Church Council has just rented out the Manse for 12-24 months to a family from South Africa. We are very pleased with this as there is an oversupply of rental properties on the market at this time.

About GUC

We are a community on a journey, we’ve grown from a small faith community planted in Ngunnawal in the early years of Gungahlin’s development to a thriving inclusive, intergenerational & multicultural community. As Gungahlin has grown we have seen a lot of change.

We are an open and inclusive community, everyone is welcome to use their gifts in worship, prayer, leadership, hospitality and teaching.

Worship is for all ages, (0 to 93!) and seeks to be meaningful in different ways for us all.
