Bulletin – 04 Nov 2012

November 4, 2012 by Church Office

Today at Gungahlin Uniting Church
Today at Gungahlin Uniting Church
Welcome to worship! Welcome to Christian Community! Welcome to you all! Today we also welcome Bishop Pat Power who was Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn. Pat has chosen the parable of the Good Samaritan with its entry conversation between Jesus and a lawyer (or in Mark’s Gospel, Jesus and a Scribe). At Gungahlin Uniting we have morning tea in the middle of worship followed by Pat’s message to us in the worship space and Oasis for our primary children in the courtyard room.

Spice Kids Lunch
November 10th, 12 noon
We will be ordering a Chinese Banquet to be eaten in the Multi Purpose Room.
Cost approx $18.00.
Anyone free to join us is most welcome!!

Nomination for Church Council Close today.
Each year we ask our congregation to think about who they would like on our Church Council. The Church Council is the group that represents the congregation and oversees all direction, business and, at this stage, the property for us all. It is up to the congregation to consider and discern who should be on our Church Council. Members on the Church Council should be people who have the following skills and gifts.

  • Are able to listen and work alongside others.
  • Are willing to build the congregation up in faith and love.
  • Are able to reflect creatively on the challenges of being the church in a secular society.
  • Are able to support the Minister in his role and work.

You are invited to prayerfully discern who you believe have the skills and gifts to be leaders on the Council. You do not need to get the person you nominate to agree and you don’t need to get it seconded. This year you simply indicate who you believe has the gifts and graces for leadership. If two or more nominations are received for a person they will be asked to consider. Forms are available in the foyer. Please put all your forms in the Gold Box in the foyer.

Would you like to…
– Read the Bible in church?
– Bring bread and wine for communion?
– Help clean?
– Be involved in Children’s Ministry?
– Help volunteer in the food pantry?
– Help cook the BBQ lunch?
– Welcome people on the door?
Or more?
Please fill in the form in the foyer and pop it into the gold box.

Billabong
Next Sunday Billabong go to Tunzafun at 3pm at Belconnen!
(Shouldn’t Tunzafun be spelt… Tons of Fun!)

Bible Studies and Conversations at GUC on the Gospel of Luke.
Starting next Sunday evenings at 5pm. you are invited to come along to Bible Conversations on the Gospel of Luke. Luke is the Gospel that is the focus of our Advent readings and most of our reading throughout 2013 so this is a great opportunity for study, conversation and learning about this book. Everyone is welcome.

With Love to the World (daily devotions)
With Love to the World is a booklet of daily devotions based on the readings we use each week in worship. The latest issue is available in the foyer for anyone who would like a copy. They are only $4. With Love to the World is published by the Uniting Church and is a good way to reflect briefly each day on God’s word for our lives.

Bible Study
Are you interested in attending a regular evening Bible Study?
Bruce and Liz Warren will be hosting one at their home on Mondays from 7:30 to 9pm.
If you are interested, please see Bruce or Liz, or email them on mail@bewarren.id.au

About GUC

We are a community on a journey, we’ve grown from a small faith community planted in Ngunnawal in the early years of Gungahlin’s development to a thriving inclusive, intergenerational & multicultural community. As Gungahlin has grown we have seen a lot of change.

We are an open and inclusive community, everyone is welcome to use their gifts in worship, prayer, leadership, hospitality and teaching.
