Bulletin – 23 Dec 2012

December 23, 2012 by Church Office

Today at Gungahlin Uniting Church
A warm welcome to everyone who is with us today, over Christmas or throughout January. At Gungahlin Uniting we seek to be inclusive of all people and to encourage everyone in their faith journey with God. If you are with us for Christmas we hope you have a deep sense of God’s presence in your life through the birth of Jesus Christ.

Mark on Holidays in January
Our Minister Mark will be away in January on holidays. Throughout this time there will still be worship every Sunday at 9.30am. If you have any needs or concerns throughout this time, please consider talking to Ron Reeson or Shirley Williams or someone you trust and know in our congregation.

Where are we up to with the Mustard Seed Uniting Food Pantry?
The Church Council met on Monday night, along with the co-ordinators of the food pantry and Steve Sweet as the Church Building Maintenance coordinator. The Church Council has accepted a quote to have the store built by a company who will oversee every step of the process including site plan drafting and government submissions. We expect work to begin towards the end of January. The grants we have received are $10,000 from the NSW and ACT Synod Seed Fund, $5000 from Hands Across Canberra and $2000 from the Snow Foundation. This is simply wonderful.

In addition there have been generous donations both given and pledged by the congregation. Envelopes for any donations you may want to make towards the food pantry will be available from Sunday 30th. The Church Council noted that even after the grants and donations there is likely to be a deficit at the completion of the project of around $7500, but is willing to cover this cost initially through our reserves. This action will enable us to begin operation of our food pantry in the first part of 2013. If you have any comments or questions about finance you are invited to speak with Matt (Church Council Chair) or Wayne (Treasurer). If you have any other comments or questions then please feel free to chat with Mark. Please continue to pray for this mission as part of our life in our local community.

The Greenhills Board and Staff would like to invite you to attend a Bushfire Commemoration Service, a service of remembrance and thanksgiving, marking 10 years since the 2003 Canberra Fires.
When: Sunday 20th January
Time: Service will commence at 11am, with light refreshments to follow

About GUC

We are a community on a journey, we’ve grown from a small faith community planted in Ngunnawal in the early years of Gungahlin’s development to a thriving inclusive, intergenerational & multicultural community. As Gungahlin has grown we have seen a lot of change.

We are an open and inclusive community, everyone is welcome to use their gifts in worship, prayer, leadership, hospitality and teaching.
