Bulletin – 03 Feb 2013

February 3, 2013 by Church Office

Welcome to Gungahlin Uniting Church
Everyone is welcome as we gather as a Christian Community to worship God. Our Congregation is made up of many different people from diverse backgrounds, languages, traditions and theology and together we gather as one. At Gungahlin Uniting we usually have morning tea in the middle of worship. This week in the first half our Minister, Mark, will meet with the youth (Billabong year 6+) in the courtyard rooms. After morning tea we all meet back in the worship space to reflect on God’s word for our lives.

Thankyou…
Thank you to everyone who has supported our ministry and life as a congregation over the past month.
Thank you to the Church Council who have been working on matters of administration and finance.
Thank you to all who helped organise, prepare and welcome the wider community as we celebrated Chris Fernando’s life.
Thank you to those who led worship and took part in worship while I was on holidays.

In all of this we express our faith in Christian community and in our part in the wider community in which we live.

Where are we up to with the food pantry?

  • We have paid our deposit to the builders!
  • ActewAGL have to give approval for gas, water, electricity and sewer (even though we are not having most of those connected) We have been given approval in the last week for all these utilities. We now make our next payment so that the shed can be prepared and the slab poured.
  • FoodBank NSW has our application and we have also received our Charitable Collection Licence from the ACT Government Office of Regulatory Services.
  • The co-ordinators for the food pantry meet this week to continue planning for its opening and operation.
  • Thankyou to everyone who has made a donation towards setting up and running the pantry. If you would like to make your donation to the Mustard Seed Uniting Food Pantry, please use the envelopes provided and simply put it in the offering bowl.

Two important leaders for our congregation needed!

Billabong in 2013
Billabong is our youth aged group, which meets in different ways each week. On the 3rd. Sunday of each month, Billabong meets after morning tea with a leader for reflection and Bible Conversation. We are still looking for a leader for this 3rd. Sunday group; a commitment of only once a month. If you are interested please talk with Heather Lamb (62418296) or myself (62425001) This leader is to facilitate conversation, reflection and encouragement and could be shared by two people of any age!

Treasurer
The role of Treasurer in our congregation is important, not only in terms of our finances, but as part of our mission and life. Together we continue to take big steps and it is important that the treasurer offer wise reflection and encouragement. We are still seeking a treasurer and the tasks are as follows:

  • The Treasurer is a member of Church Council which meets monthly and is supported by the Church Council, the Minister, and the Administration Officer.
  • The Treasurer works in consultation with the Admin Officer who manages the MYOB, accounts and bill payments on a weekly basis.
  • The Treasurer presents to Church Council a monthly financial report (provided in consultation with Administration Officer).
  • Quarterly the Treasurer is to prepare and ensure our BAS is lodged. (Business Activity Statement). Information for this is provided in part through MYOB and the Admin Officer.
  • At the end of the financial year check and finalise accounts, prepare and submit documents to auditor, send reports (UR2) to Uniting Church Synod, prepare in conjunction with Minister and Church Council the budget for next financial year.
  • Assist annually to present to the congregation the budget. (This could be presented by CC Chair).
  • In April of each year there is a Presbytery Treasurer’s workshop to attend if possible.
  • The Church Council and Minister prepare Grow One for presentation to the congregation around May/June. Grow One encourages our congregation to reflect upon its financial giving.
