Bulletin – 24 Feb 2013

February 24, 2013 by Church Office

Welcome to Gungahlin Uniting Church
Welcome to worship today. At Gungahlin Uniting we usually have morning tea in the middle of worship, so today we all worship together to begin, then share in morning tea, followed by various groups. Oasis (Primary aged children) will meet following morning tea with Jenelle in the courtyard rooms at the end of the hallway. Billabong (High school youth) will meet with their mentors. A message reflecting on the Gospel reading, song and prayer, will continue in the main worship space.

Easter Worship at Gungahlin Uniting
Easter Thursday 28th. March – 8pm.
A service with Taize songs and communion.
Good Friday – 9.30am.
A service of music, readings, and communion, followed by hot cross buns.
Easter Sunday – 9.30am.
A service of singing and celebrations at the risen presence of Christ!

A Lenten evening with meal and meaning
This Lent you are invited to come along for a shared evening meal and a time of reflection and worship around the theme: “meeting Christ on the road…” This will be an evening of food, reflective conversation and worship and of course all ages are welcome. Sunday 17th. March, 5-8pm. You are invited to bring a plate of food either from your own culture, or reflecting Middle Eastern food (dips, breads, lamb, vine leaves)… but you do not have to bring food to come along…there will always be plenty.

How you can be involved in the Mustard Seed Uniting Food Pantry
As we continue to prepare for our food pantry which will be open each Thursday from 12-3pm, there are a number of ways you can be involved. We are looking for people who would like to volunteer to do the following:

  • To help set up/run the café – 2 volunteers each Thursday.
  • To help run the Food Pantry – 3 volunteers each Thursday.
  • To restock shelves with food – 2 or more each week between Thursday evening and the following Tuesday evening (could be a family).

If you would like to volunteer in any of these ways, the lists for your names are in the foyer.

20 simple recipes with 5 simple ingredients!
Elizabeth Phythian has volunteered to gather recipes that are simple with a few (5) everyday ingredients so that we can put together a small recipe book for the food pantry customers. This is another way you can be involved…. send your recipe to Elizabeth (mande.phythian@bigpond.com). It may be that not all recipes can be included at this stage, but they will all be kept to be used in the future.

With Love to the World
The latest edition of With Love the World is now available in the foyer. With Love to the World is a daily devotional published by the Uniting Church. Each day has a short reading, reflection, thought for prayer and over each week will use the readings we use in our Sunday worship. If you can make a donation of $4 that would be appreciated, but please feel free to take a copy.

Gungahlin Uniting Men’s & Women’s Breakfasts
Come along to share breakfast with each other!
Women’s Breakfast – 9th March from 8.45am
Men’s Breakfast – 16th March from 8.45am
Both at Siren (corner of Anthony Rolfe Avenue and Gozzard Street, Gungahlin)
Please put your name on the lists in the foyer if you’d like to come along.

Lenten Giving at Gungahlin Uniting
Each Lent we usually give up something, or raise some money for someone, but this Lent we are encouraging some simple giving. You are invited this Lent to particularly donate to our food supply. Each week over the past month people have come asking for food. As well, it will not be long before we begin to operate our food store. So when you are at the supermarket, put in an item or two for others, then bring your grocery items along to church! Here are a few ideas:

* Pasta sauce * Tins of stews * Toilet paper
* Pasta * Weetbix * Tea/coffee
* Tins of fish/tuna * Long life whole milk * Tins of spaghetti or baked beans
* Sandwich spreads (Vegemite/Jams) * Tins of fruit

About GUC

We are a community on a journey, we’ve grown from a small faith community planted in Ngunnawal in the early years of Gungahlin’s development to a thriving inclusive, intergenerational & multicultural community. As Gungahlin has grown we have seen a lot of change.

We are an open and inclusive community, everyone is welcome to use their gifts in worship, prayer, leadership, hospitality and teaching.
