Bulletin – 24 Mar 2013

March 24, 2013 by Church Office

Welcome to Gungahlin Uniting Church
Today in the life of the church throughout the world is Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter where we recall the account of Jesus entering Jerusalem for the last time before his death on the cross. Welcome as we share in this time of worship together. At Gungahlin Uniting we usually have morning tea together in the middle of worship. Following morning tea there is Oasis for primary school aged children in the courtyard rooms at the end of the passage. Billabong youth all meet with their mentors. There is also an opportunity to reflect upon the Gospel for today, along with song and prayer, back in the main worship space.

Spring Getaway
Would you be interested in helping organise a Spring Getaway? 18 months ago we had a getaway in early November at Fitzroy Falls which was both relaxing and encouraging. Our getaways are designed for all ages, to be relaxing, creative, and fun. If you would be interested in helping organise, just pop your name on the sheet in the foyer.

Good Friday Reflection
A prayerful walk with a prophetic edge
Parliamentary Triangle 1pm – 3pm Friday 29 March 2013 beginning outside the National Gallery. We will sing, pray and reflect on various justice issues in the light of the Good Friday story. All are welcome. This is an ecumenical walk.
Enquiries: 62516100 or 62956766 office@holycovenant.org.au or suedunbar53@yahoo.com

Working Bee
There will be a working bee on Saturday, the 23rd March at 9.30 a.m. and it would be appreciated if as many of the congregation as possible could attend. This will be to have a general clean and tidy of the church and grounds before the Easter services.

Position Vacant
Position vacant in the Wesley Music Centre (an activity of Wesley Uniting Church). Executive Officer, part-time, up to 25 hours a week, with the working hours and remuneration to be negotiated. Full information, including job description and selection criteria, is on the church website (http://www.wesleycanberra.org.au) or available from Wesley Music Centre, 20 National Circuit, Forrest, ACT 2603, phone 6232 7248. Due date for expressions of interest is 22nd April.

Lenten Giving at Gungahlin Uniting
Each Lent we usually give up something, or raise some money for someone, but this Lent we are encouraging some simple giving. You are invited this Lent to particularly donate to our food supply. Each week over the past month people have come asking for food. As well, it will not be long before we begin to operate our food store. So when you are at the supermarket, put in an item or two for others, then bring your grocery items along to church! Here are a few ideas:

* Pasta sauce * Tins of stews * Toilet paper
* Pasta * Weetbix * Tea/coffee
* Tins of fish/tuna * Long life whole milk * Tins of spaghetti or baked beans
* Sandwich spreads (Vegemite/Jams) * Tins of fruit

About GUC

We are a community on a journey. We’ve grown from a small faith community planted in Ngunnawal in the early years of Gungahlin’s development to a thriving intergenerational and multicultural community located near the Gungahlin town centre.

Gungahlin Uniting Church is an open and inclusive community.  You are welcome to join us and participate in the life of our community as we experience life, God and seek to follow the way of Christ.

Worship is for all ages, (0 to 93!) and seeks to be meaningful in different ways for us all.

In Jesus Christ we see how he drew near to each and all and so we hope our worship expresses this nearness too.
