Bulletin – 23 Jun 2013

June 23, 2013 by Church Office

Welcome to Gungahlin Uniting Church
God draws close to us in life in many different ways – we hope that in this community you have the opportunity to ponder God’s presence and find encouragement and peace. Everyone is welcome; this is not a club of like-minded people, but a place that reflects the breadth of humanity and the diversity of opinion and experience. At Gungahlin Uniting we usually have morning tea in the middle of worship, followed by Oasis for primary aged children, Billabong for youth, and readings with a message in the main worship space for everyone else.

Food Pantry Funding Update
When we first drew up the costs most everything was largely unknown as it always is when you are in mission and construction! We expected our costs to be around $39,737, but they came in $321.38 less at $39,415.62. We expected our donations to be $27,970, but instead we have raised, with the support of many others, $38,450. The bottom line is $965.62 less than we have raised. This is simply wonderful! Thankyou to the congregation also as we donated 1/3 of the money needed for this mission and community support. Please continue to pray for our congregation and the work of the pantry.

Billabong Today
Scavenger Hunt at the Portrait Gallery for our Billabong youth! 2pm – 3.30pm. Bring a few $ for a drink at the end as we go through our answers.

BBQ helpers needed
A new BBQ helper roster needs to be drawn up with those who are willing to help organise the BBQ we have once a month. All expenses are covered; you need to buy the food and then be around to cook and clean up after. We only have a BBQ once per month so with a few volunteers it does not come around too often. If you are willing please put your name on the list in the foyer.

Introducing Kairos Outside for Women
Kairos Outside for Women (KOW) is a pastoral ministry demonstrating God’s grace and love through Christian support to women whose lives have been impacted because someone close to them has been in prison. These women often feel that they ‘do time’ along with the inmate. A KOW Guest weekend in being held at Greenhills Conference Centre on 19-21 July. Margaret Reeson is a member of the team.

To support this ministry, you are invited to pray for team and guests, colour in some small posters, and/or buy fundraiser chocolates.

New Contact Directory
We are about to update our contact directory again. Please see the list in the foyer – check your names and details, make any corrections and then sign if you are willing to have your name included.

An Invitation To Sing
Do you have some old favorite hymns that you would like to sing again? Do you have memories of songs and hymns that used to be an important part of your spiritual life but are rarely sung these days? You are invited to come and sing your choice on

Sunday afternoon 30 June 2.30-4.00 pm
at Gungahlin Uniting Church

If you have special songs and hymns that are not in Australian Hymn Book, let Margaret Reeson know by 27 June. We will find the music and print out the words.

About GUC

We are a community on a journey, we’ve grown from a small faith community planted in Ngunnawal in the early years of Gungahlin’s development to a thriving inclusive, intergenerational & multicultural community. As Gungahlin has grown we have seen a lot of change.

We are an open and inclusive community, everyone is welcome to use their gifts in worship, prayer, leadership, hospitality and teaching.

Worship is for all ages, (0 to 93!) and seeks to be meaningful in different ways for us all.

In Jesus Christ we see how he drew near to each and all and so we hope our worship expresses this nearness too.
