Worship on Sunday 10th December

December 9, 2017 by Church Office

9:30am All Age Worship with Communion & BBQ
Rev. Jonathan Barker

Bible Readings
Isaiah 40:1-8; Psalm 85:1-2,8-13
Mark 1:1-8

Greetings to the Gungahlin Uniting community

This coming Sunday is the Second Sunday of Advent and our theme is JOY. In the introduction to “God with Us – Reflections for Advent – 2017” it says “JOY is not the frothy delight of escapism, but the serene joy of those who can sail over the seas of turbulent times with tranquillity.” Jesus’ humble birth occurred in turbulent times, but the event prompted angels to burst into song. May we be moved to sing joyously about the alternative way of God coming among us to heal a broken world.

During Sunday’s service we welcome and witness the baptism of Ross Graham. After the service all are invited to morning tea and our last sausage sizzle for the year.

We have received an invitation from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to attend a Peace Symposium, to be held at Greenhills this Sunday afternoon from 2.30pm. If anyone is able to attend, please let me know.

Next Sunday our theme is PEACE. We invite you to bring newspaper clippings of situations which illustrate peace and/or the need for peace.

Monday evening –18th December (from 7-8 pm), we continue reflections on Advent themes. All are welcome.

Despite the rush towards the end of the year, may there be moments to pause and sense the divine joy of being alive in our times.

Grace and Peace
Jonathan

About GUC

We are a community on a journey, we’ve grown from a small faith community planted in Ngunnawal in the early years of Gungahlin’s development to a thriving inclusive, intergenerational & multicultural community. As Gungahlin has grown we have seen a lot of change.

We are an open and inclusive community, everyone is welcome to use their gifts in worship, prayer, leadership, hospitality and teaching.

Worship is for all ages, (0 to 93!) and seeks to be meaningful in different ways for us all.

In Jesus Christ we see how he drew near to each and all and so we hope our worship expresses this nearness too.
