Pentecost – Blessing & Sending

May 30, 2020 by Darren Wright

Call to Worship

Source: Spill the Beans

It started with one,
just one,
a single person
who broke open a tomb
and gasped with life again,
inhaled justice again,
infused the longing
for transformation again.

But one became two,
and two became four,
and four became a group,
and a group became a crowd,
and the light spread,
and gathered,
and lit up injustice,
and brought to notice oppression,
and called out of the shadows
inequalities and prejudice,
and shone across untruth and deceit.

The light grew,
the light became a spark,
the light became a way,
the light became…

…a fire…

that spread through
the disciples and followers,
questioners and seekers,
and this fire
was spirit
burning with indignation
at what was wrong
and burning with hope
for what could be transformed.

Gather round the fire,
the spirit,
and breathe the life in her,
gasp with the justice in her,
be infused with the longing
of God for the world.

Here is the energy of heaven
and we celebrate it

Sending

There was one,
now there are many:
the kindling that is justice,
the spark that is life,
the flame that is truth,
the fire that is love,
the burning that is God’s passion
is spreading.

Let us be that movement of hope.
Let us be love’s workers in the world.
Let us stand up and stand out for truth.
Let us harbour spirit,
God’s spirit,
everywhere.

And the passion of Peace,
the stirring of Truth,
the restlessness of Justice
be in us, through us and awaken us
from here on in
and for evermore.

About GUC

We are a community on a journey, we’ve grown from a small faith community planted in Ngunnawal in the early years of Gungahlin’s development to a thriving inclusive, intergenerational & multicultural community. As Gungahlin has grown we have seen a lot of change.

We are an open and inclusive community, everyone is welcome to use their gifts in worship, prayer, leadership, hospitality and teaching.
