Bulletin – 04 Sep 2011

September 4, 2011 by Church Office

Gungahlin Uniting Church Africa Donation
At this time of famine and refugee crisis in Africa, the Church Council has decided that in two weeks, on Sunday 11th, we will take up a special offering in worship which will be matched $ for $ from the congregation’s finances. This offering will be sent through either UnitingWorld or UNHCR to those in need. If you would like to contribute, but will be away on that weekend, please put your offering in a marked envelope.

Congregational Meeting – 18th September
There will be a congregational meeting following worship on Sunday 18th. September to look at our budget for 2011/12. The Church Council realises that while the financial year has already begun, the congregation still needs to approve the budget, but due to the work involved in assessing income and expenditure needs it has taken some time to prepare.

Participating in GUC in 2012
How would you like to participate in Gungahlin Uniting Church throughout 2012? Who would you like to have on our Church Council? Pick up your ‘Participation’ form today, fill it in, and pop it in the box in the foyer!

Spring Getaway
If you didn’t get a registration form last Sunday, you might like to grab one from the foyer today! The Spring Getaway for our church promises a warm and relaxing week-end in the picturesque surrounds of Fitzroy Falls with the sweet lilting song of native birds, the soothing hush of breeze through the eucalypts and the refreshing taste of freshly picked tea leaves brewed in the tradition handed down from one generation to another… the tea bag! All this… and more… as we share in community together. 18th – 20th November!

Home Group Coordinators
In a few weeks the whole congregation will be asked to consider how people would like to be involved in our church life for 2012. As part of this we will be asking people if they would like to join, continue, or change Home Groups. Home Groups used to be called “Family Groups” and meet once a month on the third weekend for friendship and encouragement. Perhaps it is time we added a new group or two and you might be willing to coordinate one of these groups! If so please speak with Mark, Pam or Shirley. The coordinator of a Home Group does not do all the work and hospitality, but simply kicks the group off and ensures there is some communication as different people in each group take responsibility to lead at different times.

Church Council Elections
Each year the congregation elects our Church Council. The Council meet once per month and oversee the organisation and work of the congregation. This year there are up to seven vacancies so please begin to consider who you would like to have on this important team in the life of our church. It is important to note also that we will be seeking a new treasurer and secretary. Please be prayerful about this, seeking those who have both the gifts of leadership and who have been involved in the Uniting Church for a significant time.

Friendship Conversation Groups
The Friendship Conversation groups mentioned previously will commence on Saturday 10th September at 9.30 am at the Church. It is hoped to improve spoken English ability by practising English language in a friendly environment. Present plans are to meet fortnightly. If you wish to improve your English please speak to Ron Reeson (62623577) or Steve Sweet (62424334). We also want to find out what is the best time for people to attend a group – weekday evenings or Saturday mornings.

About GUC

We are a community on a journey, we’ve grown from a small faith community planted in Ngunnawal in the early years of Gungahlin’s development to a thriving inclusive, intergenerational & multicultural community. As Gungahlin has grown we have seen a lot of change.

We are an open and inclusive community, everyone is welcome to use their gifts in worship, prayer, leadership, hospitality and teaching.

Worship is for all ages, (0 to 93!) and seeks to be meaningful in different ways for us all.

In Jesus Christ we see how he drew near to each and all and so we hope our worship expresses this nearness too.
