Bulletin – 11 Sep 2011

September 11, 2011 by Church Office

Billabong Bush Walk Tonight!!!
Billabong begins tonight at 5pm with a BBQ at the church and then we will walk from the church, up through Mulligans Flat behind Forde, then to the reserve car park at the back of Forde. Pick up time is 8.30pm. Please bring a working torch each, warm clothes, good shoes and emergency flares! Parents please sign in your child and leave your contact phone numbers!

Curry Night!
We will be having a Curry Night on Saturday 22nd October, starting 5.30pm, here at the church. The cost is $12 per person and you are asked to bring along drinks and wine to share. If you would like to come along please pop your name on the list in the foyer also indicating if you would be willing to assist in setting up and clearing up, or helping Kanthi in the kitchen! Remember if you would like to know more… Just ask!

Gungahlin Uniting Church African Donation
Today in Worship we will take up a special offering at this time of famine and refugee crisis in the Horn of Africa. For every dollar we donate today another dollar from our congregational funds will be added and sent to support those who suffer.

Participating in GUC in 2012
Every year we ask every person how they would like to be involved in our church throughout the following year. It doesn’t matter if you are new to the church or if you have been here for years…. you are invited to think about how you would like to be involved. Grab a sheet, read through all the jobs that make this place happen, fill in the sheet, then pop it in the box in the foyer. Remember if you would like to know more… Just ask!

Spring Getaway
Our Church is having a Getaway at Fitzroy Falls from 18th.- 20th. November. We promise there will be no embarrassing ‘Get to Know you Games’! We promise there will be no washing up rosters! We promise there will be no watery scrambled eggs!

So if you want a relaxing weekend with space for creativity and rest, then grab a registration form in the foyer and have a read! Registrations can be handed to Elizabeth Phythian. Remember if you would like to know more… Just ask!

Congregational Meeting – 18th September
There will be a congregational meeting following worship on Sunday 18th. September to look at our budget for 2011/12. The Church Council realises that while the financial year has already begun, the congregation still needs to approve the budget, but due to the work involved in assessing income and expenditure needs it has taken some time to prepare.

Home Groups
At Gungahlin Uniting we have Home Groups that meet once a month on the 3rd weekend for a social gathering. This year we are asking people to recommit to their group if you belong to one before, join one if you have not belonged before, or change if you would like to change. Please add your names to the list in the foyer!

We are also looking for few new coordinators for Home Groups. The coordinator does not have to do all the work and provide all the hospitality, as groups meet in different locations each month. The coordinator simply kicks off the group, ensures there is communication and that people in the group take responsibility for arranging and leading the group at different times. Again if you are willing to coordinate, please see Mark, Pam or Shirley. Remember if you would like to know more… Just ask!

Church Council Elections
Each year the congregation elects our Church Council. The Council meet once per month and oversee the organisation and work of the congregation. This year there are up to seven vacancies so please begin to consider who you would like to have on this important team in the life of our church. It is important to note also that we will be seeking a new treasurer and secretary. Please be prayerful about this, seeking those who have both the gifts of leadership and who have been involved in the Uniting Church for a significant time.

About GUC

We are a community on a journey. We’ve grown from a small faith community planted in Ngunnawal in the early years of Gungahlin’s development to a thriving intergenerational and multicultural community located near the Gungahlin town centre.

Gungahlin Uniting Church is an open and inclusive community.  You are welcome to join us and participate in the life of our community as we experience life, God and seek to follow the way of Christ.

Worship is for all ages, (0 to 93!) and seeks to be meaningful in different ways for us all.
