Bulletin – 25 Sep 2011

September 25, 2011 by Church Office

Welcome!
Today we welcome Peter and Rachel Carlson and their family to church. Rachel is Peter and Joan Woodward’s daughter. Peter and Joan were a part of this congregation some years ago. In our worship today, Peter and Rachel will share with us their work with Wycliff and their plans to travel to PNG.

Where is Mark?
This Sunday Mark is leading the Life and Witness Consultation at Queanbeyan Uniting Church. Next Weekend Mark and his family will be at Blackstump after which he is taking one week’s holiday.

Curry Night!
We will be having a Curry Night on Saturday 22nd October, starting 5.30pm, here at the church. The cost is $12 adult, $10 child, and you are asked to bring along drinks and wine to share. If you would like to come along please pop your name on the list in the foyer also indicating if you would be willing to assist in setting up and clearing up, or helping Kanthi in the kitchen! Remember if you would like to know more… Just ask!

Community Vegetable Gardens at GUCCC?
A number of people have independently suggested we might consider using the back part of our land for community vegetable gardens. Community Vegetable Gardens provide a secure space, fenced, with a shed, water, tools, where members of the community ‘rent’ a plot to grow their own vegies. This is particularly helpful for those who love to garden and live in units or town houses. The suggestion has been made that perhaps some of the produce could be given to those in need. Perhaps the shed could have an awning, with a table, providing a space for community friendship.

What do you think? Anyone who is interested in hearing about community gardens, how they work and if it could work for us is invited to an open conversation on the idea; Sunday 23rd. October at 4pm.

Transport Help
My name is Bella and I have just started going to the Gungahlin Uniting Church. I am having difficulty getting to church due to lack of public transport. If anyone can pick me up from my house on Sundays at 139 Kelleway Avenue in Nicholls I would appreciate it. I can be contacted at work on 6261 4240 or you could leave a message with Mike Voitl on 6242 4636.
Thank you.
Bella Morgan.

Spring Getaway
Our Church is having a Getaway at Fitzroy Falls from 18th.- 20th. November. We promise there will be no embarrassing ‘Get to Know you Games’! We promise there will be no washing up rosters! We promise there will be no watery scrambled eggs! So if you want a relaxing weekend with space for creativity and rest, then grab a registration form in the foyer and have a read! Registrations can be handed to Elizabeth Phythian. Remember if you would like to know more… Just ask!

Participating in your church in 2012
Every year we ask every person how they would like to be involved in our church throughout the following year. It doesn’t matter if you are new to the church or if you have been here for years…. you are invited to think about how you would like to be involved. Grab a sheet, read through all the jobs that make this place happen, fill in the sheet, then pop it in the box in the foyer. Remember if you would like to know more… Just ask!

African Appeal
Thankyou to everyone who donated to the African Appeal. $483.35 was donated to be matched $ for $ from our church funds. Therefore we will send $966.70 to help those who suffer from drought and famine in the Horn of Africa.

About GUC

We are a community on a journey, we’ve grown from a small faith community planted in Ngunnawal in the early years of Gungahlin’s development to a thriving inclusive, intergenerational & multicultural community. As Gungahlin has grown we have seen a lot of change.

We are an open and inclusive community, everyone is welcome to use their gifts in worship, prayer, leadership, hospitality and teaching.
