Go Deeper – April 26 2020

25/04/2020 by Darren Wright

Invitation 01 – Make some bread, break it and share it with someone.

As you do remember the meals you’ve had with strangers who have turned friends. What are your favourite memories of meals shared?

Theodore and I have put a very simple Soda Bread recipe up on my Facebook page for people to use.

Invitation 02 – Remix the Psalm

https://vimeo.com/411452183

Psalm 116 will be back in the readings again very soon, here is an invitation to remix it and share it with each other, perhaps you’d like to rewrite it’s words, turn it into a poem, a song, a piece of art…

Spend some time with the Psalm and send in your creations so we can share them with each other.

If you really enjoyed remixing the Psalm, perhaps you can make it a regular task and email your creations in for use in community worship.

Invitation 03 – Lectio Vicinitas (Neighbourhood Reading)

Lectio Vicinitas is a spriritual practice that invites us to walk around our neighbourhood and seek the spirit during our journey,

We have a description and instructions for this practice on our website here.

Walking Together

25/04/2020 by Darren Wright

Plan a walk together this week, perhaps you can get a map and mark out where you’ll walk. How long will it take, what provisions will you need?

Discuss with the children journeys they make on foot on a regular basis. Where do they go? Who are they walking with? Talk about the story. Talk about the importance of having good friends who will listen to you, with whom you can share worries as well as good things.

Talk about how Jesus walked with the two friends even when they did not recognise him.

Film Series: The Bible Tells Me So

20/04/2020 by Darren Wright

A Seven Part Series on The Bible

This series of videos comes from The Work From The People, we have a subscription to their catalogue and have made a number of the films available with discussion/reflection material for people to use in their faith formation. Please do not distribute the films beyond the GUC community, or upload to youtube or facebook.

Themes:

Bible, Questions, Story, Reading Scripture, Faith

Series Description:

What if the Bible is fine just the way it is? Not a well behaved Bible, where everything lines up and makes sense, but the messy, troubling, and weird Bible we actually have? What if the Bible doesn’t need to be protected and defended, but understood–just as it is? What if the real problem isn’t the Bible but the false expectations we sometimes bring to it? Perhaps, when we let the Bible be the Bible rather than what we expect it ought to be–or need it to be–we will find a deeper faith in the process.

The curriculum, written by Andrew Hill, includes 7 sessions with an accompanying discussion guide. If you would like access to this video series and the discussion guide please contact Darren Wright for the link and password for the videos.

Session Titles:

Session 01 – I’ll Take Door Number Two

Session 02 – God Did What?!

Session 03 – God Likes Stories

Session 04 – Why Doesn’t God Make Up His Mind?

Session 05 – Jesus Is Bigger Than The Bible

Session 06 – No One Saw This Coming

About GUC

Gungahlin Uniting Church is an open and inclusive community.  You are welcome to join us and participate in the life of our community as we experience life, God and seek to follow the way of Christ.
