Community Development, Faith and Justice Forum in the Canberra Region Presbytery

27/05/2016 by Church Office

Truly Civil Society – Kindness, Equity and Respect

WHEN: Saturday 4th June
Registration from 9:15am with coffee and tea available on arrival.
WHERE: Gungahlin Uniting Church
108 The Valley Ave, Gungahlin, Canberra
This year the forum will focus on what it means to be a Truly Civil Society of kindness, equity and respect.

We will hear from invited guest speakers:
Eva Cox, 1995 Boyer Lecturer on A Truly Civil Society
Pastor Jarrod McKenna, First Home Project, Love Makes a Way

We will explore the essential elements for a truly civil society. We will confirm practical ways that the Uniting Church can harness its resources to shape local communities to be truly civil societies. We will further build on the good relationships developed between Canberra region congregation members, Presbytery staff and key staff/Directors of Uniting. We will provide a forum for congregations, Presbytery and Uniting to share information and lessons on relevant community services, community building or social justice initiatives that support the theme. Invitations are also being sent to members of other community service organisations, such as ACTCOSS, the Canberra Alliance, and other faith-based communities.

Please get in touch to register your participation so that our wonderful caterers can do their thing: bgriffiths@uniting.org

About GUC

We are a community on a journey. We’ve grown from a small faith community planted in Ngunnawal in the early years of Gungahlin’s development to a thriving intergenerational and multicultural community located near the Gungahlin town centre.

Gungahlin Uniting Church is an open and inclusive community.  You are welcome to join us and participate in the life of our community as we experience life, God and seek to follow the way of Christ.
