Home Brewed Worship – May 03 2020

May 2, 2020 by Darren Wright

This week’s Home Brewed Worship provides you all a number of ways to enter into prayer and to explore the Gospel story. If you’re at home with family, a partner, a friend or a spouse please consider working through some of this with them. If you’re alone, consider phoning someone else and inviting them to join you in worship.

Carve out some space sacred space in your home, perhaps you have candle, some colourful material, a cross, a bible, some pictures of the world, artwork or images of Jesus…

You don’t need to use all of this material, nor do you need to do it all in one sitting, perhaps some of these prayers and music can travel with you throughout the week. Use the material as part of daily exercises, music to carry you through the week, reflections to ponder as you walk or stay at home.

For some your focus may be to hear the gospel preached, others the gospel sung, while others may want to find a practice that they can enter into over the course of the week to make space for the Holy Spirit to work on us.

*We know there have been others using this resource in their own homes or communities, if you’d like to have updates and information of new resources please jump on our email list.

Order of Service

Some people have requested an order of service as a guide to use this material at home. Access a formal order here. If you’re happy making your own way through these resources please make yourself at home.

Home Brewed Families

We’ve curated some resources specifically for families to use in their homes this week, you can access them here.

As we enter into worship we invite you to contemplate these 3 questions:

  • What am I grateful for this week?
  • Who will I check in with / make contact with this week?
  • Where will I seek, or create beauty this week?

This Week’s Readings:

Psalm 23 (MSG)
Audio (Darren Wright)

Acts 2:42-47 (CEV)
Audio & Video (Bruce Warren)

1 Peter 2:19-25 (CEV)

John 10:1-10 (CEV)
Audio & Video (Bruce Warren)

Story:

Living together:

Darren reads the story “Living Together” from the Growing in God’s Love Story Bible

Questions for Conversation:

  • What does it sound like when people are praising God? How do you praise God? Ask someone you love what it sounds like when they are praising god.
  • Who is in your church? Can you imagine them and draw a picture of your church community?
  • How do pope show love, how do people help others? What are some ways you can share love with others?

What is God’s Name?

Darren reads the story “What is God’s Name?” from the Growing in God’s Love Story Bible

Questions for Conversation:

  • What are the names for God you’ve heard? What names for God are sung or prayed?
  • What name do you like using for God? How do you imagine God looks or sounds like?
  • What are some ways you could help God by being a peacemaker?

Worship @ Home Ideas

If you are creating a little reflective corner at home here are a couple of ideas:

a) add to the space some wool, or a toy sheep and take time during the week to consider how your faith nurtures you and what you can do to nurture others.

b) build/draw/paint/create a model church and add it to the space, and take time during the week to consider what kind of church community you want to help build in Gungahlin.
